Coombesend Chasm and a return to Chudleigh

 After some research on the cave at Coombesend I was under the impression that it was no longer accessible as a result of landfill in the quarries, however when discussing on an online forum a member seemed to be under the impression it was still in fact accessible. Parking at the side of the road I walked through the woodland searching every small dip in the hillside reaching the top a fence with signs warning of "toxic gas" were present around what appeared to be a small quarry. Being very windy with plenty of airflow through the quarry I was content with the quality of air and descended into the quarry. Towards the bottom two barred cave entrances were present, again with "toxic gas" warning signs outside them, In the centre of the quarry a corrugated iron archway with a gate leading underground was present. Chudleigh Caves, a first look

 A first trip to the Chudleigh caves, exploring the non gated caves that I managed to find. Most of the caves were at the base on a south facing limestone cliff. Unfortunatley it has been hard to distinguish the names of the individual caves explored due to the lack of available information. Starting furthest away I believe the first visited was Boulton's Rift; the entrance with the rusting remains of a gate that has long been destroyed, the cave, short continuing for approx 15m before leading to a boulder choke. Several other small rifts were explored along the face before crossing the river to the south side. It was here that i searched the side of the valley for some of the other caves marked on the DCUC cave register. Searching for Skullcap cave although not anywhere near the location given on the register I found a small inconspicuous hole under some rocks leading into a small chamber followed by a tight crawl from there on.
